Mtskheta is located approximately 20 kilometers north-west of present capital of Georgia, Tbilisi. In the beginning of third century BC the King Farnaoz founded the Georgian kingdom and declared the Mtskheta as the capital of the country and created the alphabet. Mtskheta played an important role as a political, religious and cultural center of the kingdom more than 800 years.
